Flight chronicles of the backpacker Tutubi, with travelogues, pictures/photos/videos, travel guides, independent and honest reviews, affordable, recommended resorts and hotels (including inns, guesthouses, pension houses, lodges, hostels, condotels, bed and breakfast and other cheap accommodations), commuting guides, routes (sometimes street maps and GPS coordinates/waypoints) and driving directions to answer "how to get there" questions, information and tips on tourism, budget travel and living in Philippines, Exotic Asia and beyond!
Backpacking, independent travel, and flashpacking are cheaper than the "cheapest package tours" and promotional offers around but you can also use travel information for family vacations, even romantic honeymoon destinations.
More than the usual tourist spots and "places to see," this blog advocates heritage conservation, environmental protection, and history awareness for Filipinos, foreigners, and ex-pats wishing to explore Paradise Philippines and Exotic Asia!
At a time when Tutubi's favorite halo-halo joint in Paete closed shop, he instead drove to a halo-halo joint frequented by locals of Pakil and those from neighboring Pangil and Paete towns serving simple yet creamy version of halo-halo in Pakil, featuring typical halo-halo in the fourth district of Laguna featuring well-done beans as ingredients of the basic halo-halo recipe.
Lerma's Halo-halo serving
homey ambiance of Lerma's, it's actually a road-side home turned restaurant
Lerma's Halo-halo
Address: Tavera St., almost in front of Pakil General Hospital (Gen. Juan Cailles Memorial Hospital), less than a kilometer from Pakil Church
GPS Coordinates: N14 23 08.7 E121 28 39.5
Map of Pakil on OpenStreetMap (updated by Tutubi, if you're a Pakil local, please try to update the map)
Price: PhP50.00/serving
Sahog/Ingredients: gulaman, beans, leche flan, ube, banana et al
Notes: Tutubi also ordered pancit palabok but it was too salty due to generous (and excessive amounts of ground pork chicharon/dried fish) and too "saucy" (drenched in sauce)
There also is the famous Aling Taleng's Halo-halo in Pagsanjan but reports from Tutubi's sister plus a friend claim it's not worth it. Tutubi will try it also
just to be sure but knowing the standards of his sister and friend in halo-halo, the simple test is usually in creaminess. Halo-halo making involves art, you don't just mix ingredients in a bowl, put shaved ice and milk on it. Chowking's halo-halo used to be like it, dull and un-creamy, even if boasting of many ingredients, but somehow improved these days.
