PNR Bicol Express Train Fares/Schedules (Manila to Naga City, Legazpi City)

Railway historians note that the Bicol Express train service was inaugurated in "1938 when, half a kilometer from Del Gallego town proper in Camarines Sur, a golden nail was driven into a railroad tie, marking the meeting of the south and north railroad lines that linked Manila and Legazpi City by rail."

The Bicol Express was abandoned many years after being ravaged by typhoon Reming but will be having its inauguration and first commercial trip on June 29.

With the impending resurrection of the iconic Bicol Express, Tutubi has this post, including some information he squeezed from a PNR customer service representative.

PNR Bicol Express Train Route:

Manila’s Tutuban Station to Naga’s Central Station with five short stopvers in Lucena, Hondagua, Tagkawayan, Cagay, and Sipocot.

UPDATED: March 2013
as of March 2013, Bicol Express train service to Naga is suspended until further notice. Bicol Express route to Legazpi will be announced when open.

PNR Bicol Express Trip Schedules:

Bicol to Manila: 6:30pm at Naga Station

No information yet for the Bicol Express run up to Legazpi, Albay and Sorsogon (easier to get to Donsol or Matnog if this pushes through)

PNR Bicol Express Ticket Categories:

Reciling: “tourist-bus” type of coach with reclining seats that can rotate to turn and face other passengers for "social networking"

Sleeper coaches, for night trips, has rooms or cubicles with two double-deck-like types of couches face each other. This is ideal for families and barkada.

Safety and Security (Are PNR Trains Safe?):

Rail lines are renovated unlike the last time when some important parts of the steel rails were stolen. (a law should be passed to crucify railway thieves not just a slap on the wrists)

No vendors allowed to enter the train, dining carts are available, as part of PNR’s security measures

First aid kits are available

To ensure the security of passengers, two trained and armed rail police officers (marshals) in every trip

PNR Official website is still down due to under construction but Tutubi, with his Internet savvy, was able to get the "lost and found" numbers from archived pages of the old Philippine National Railways website.

    2. i think it much better to have a lowest fare rates in train since its state owned, especially the long trip like manila - bicol vice versa. otherwise passengers will choose the buses with lesser hours of trip.

  16. BAAO,CAMARINES SUR-CUBAO is only 500php with RAYMOND BUS and also ALPS. Much cheaper than the PNR rates, and definitely lesser time.

PEÑAFRANCIA BENZ ELITE 2BY1 is only 800+

  20. Good evening! I'm a regular commuter of the old PNR Train before. I have already read your posts including its comments. The information about fare rates are incomplete. I would like to ask? are you implementing a fix rate? like Manila to Naga? if i'm from calamba going to del gallego only? if there's any fare rate other than what you posted, please do inform us by posting it here for the public to know. And hoping for more updates about PNR and ensuring us commuters our safety during our trip, cause i have a relative before who has encountered an accident inside the coach, wherein a stone gets in the window and slam my auntie's face and she has not incured any financial assistance from PNR. Hoping for a better services. Goodluck and God bless you all!!!

  34. The Train from Manila to Naga current express schedule does not stop at Libmanan, Camarines Sur. I can remember during my college days in the 60's all trains express (Penafrancia/Mayon Limited)or not stops at Libmanan Station early morning and early evening for express and local morning and afternoon.Come September 2011, will trains from Manila to Naga and back make a stop at Libmanan station? Also, when will the Libmanan station be repaired to accomodate the new trains steps for the passengers boarding and alighting from it? Furthermore,I can remember during those days somebody is maintaining and checking the rail lines between station very early in the morning before the trains runs on them. Will we see this maintenance crews again? Thanks for reviving PNR.

  48. the night train is impractical for those who want to spend the day seeing the scenery which compares to the California coast and mountains by train. There should be a day train. On the first test run we rode during the day in both direction and it was spectacular. (it would be nice to clear the tracks of the shacks though)

    ReplyDelete
  49. we have a lot of bagages, just want to know if they give extra charges? tnx

  50. Is there a day trip going to Naga. Will appreciate immediate posting on day trip schedule. Really excited to try Bicol Express. Thanks

    ReplyDelete
  51. I agree, there should be a day trip. The mere fact that we will take a train is because we wanted scenery and we don't want to sleep during travel. We wanted to appreciate the beauty of Laguna, Quezon and Camarines provinces.

  53. Rode the Manila to Naga train on the eve of Nov. 1, 2011 in a sleeper coach. I was impressed by the cleanliness of the berths and CRs and the efficiency of the train personnel. Problems I encountered: train moves too much so you can hardly read or sleep, poor AC control (sometimes arctic cold then they shut the AC thus it becomes too hot), poorly maintained Espana train station (no cemented path from the parking area, garbage dumping ground in some areas, few seats)

    ReplyDelete

  66. had a bad memories riding this train, dad was injured very badly (broken ribs) when our train got off the tracks? but most flight are already sold out on the days we need to travel. my mom still speak highly of these that it had gone much better. im traveling with my baby 9 months old and old mom. which is best for us sleepers or the recline seats? would my baby pay a fare?

    ReplyDelete
  67. pwede po ba sumakay kahit may cargo na dala? how about yung motor pwde din ba isakay dyan pauwi ng Naga? tnx.

    ReplyDelete
  68. I hope that you lower the fare to Bicol through PNR train, as follows:

    Reclining seat = Pesos 460
    Sleepers coaches = Pesos 570
    Executive Sleepers = Pesos 900

With these suggested fares, this will encourage more passengers (including local and foreign tourists)to travel by train. I also hope that you have renovated/refurbished big stations (with clean properly maintained toilet facilities).

I also hope that along the railroad lines, squatters have already been removed from Manila to Bicol.

I also hope that our businessmen build more budget or pension hotels in Bicol area (especially near Embarcadero area).

There is also a need to regulate vendors (including food vendors) by making their food products safe to eat. Need to train/teach vendors to be hygienic and to throw trash on appropriate bins. Vendors must also not smoke while they sell food or wares.

    God bless the Philippines!

    ReplyDelete

May maayos ding palikuran.
