Manila Taxi Meter Rates / Fare Increase

Another bad news for 2011 along with the SLEX, NLEX and SCTEX toll fee hikes, impending MRT, LRT and PNR fare and skyrocketing (and really aboveboard gasoline prices), starting January 14, 2011, taxi fares will increase.

The present metered taxi fare is pegged at P30.00 for the first 500 meters with P2.50 for every succeeding 300 meters plus P2.50 every two minutes of idle/waiting time and last increased years ago.

The impending 2011 taxi fare increase is now 33% more for the flagdown rate and 40% increase for every succeeding 300 meters (and possibly for the waiting/idle time)

P40.00 flag down rate for the first 500 meters
P3.50 for every succeeding 300 meters

Manila Airport Taxis:

P70 for the flagdown rate for the first 500 meters
P4 for every succeeding 300 meters

There posts here with estimated taxi fares to/from various points of metro Manila. Will update posts from time to time.

Even if Tutubi no longer takes the taxi regularly, he can still estimate taxi fares from different points in Metro Manila particularly from Manila airport terminals (NAIA), Makati, Ortigas Center (Pasig) and Quezon City (Munoz, Trinoma mall and SM City North EDSA area) so he can detect tampered taximeters, called batingting, installed by miscreant taxi drivers that should have been flushed out by the LTFRB (via thei useless LTFRB hotline splattered on public utility vehicles including cabs)

  1. Please do not tip abusive drivers. In the Philippines it is okay to pay those taxi drivers exact fare. It's your right to demand for change.

  2. If the gov't allowed such, then they should also allow increase in everything including minimum wage. But the gov't. would try not to let that happen because they would say that is will create a vicious cycle and lead to more inflation. So, they will let this vortex funnel all the profits into the pockets of the business men.

  3. Gary, minimum wage earners don't ride taxis except then they're many to lessen the cost. cabs are considered luxury even to these days. what i think the government should do is enact an anti-trust law to use against the big three oil companies (petron, shell and chevron/caltex) for manipulating oil prices resulting to astronomical gasoline prices here

  4. backpacking philippines, you're absolutely right the word BIG means a lot. BIG income, BIG people, BIG connections, BIG........ Go to Baguio even a 50centavo change would be given back to you. Up to this time taxi fare in this city has no increased due to formalities. Pity the operators and drivers coz fuel is even 4 to 5 peso higher than in Manila, higher cost of maintinance, mountainous terrain and other issues like corruption

  5. Tutubi,

Could you help me estimate how much would my approximate cab fare from Cebu Pacific Terminal(NAIA 3, I think)to the Omani Consulate Office on Rodeo Drive, 802 W. Service Rd, Km 18, Paranaque? I need to be there by Wednesday, Aug 24 and I don't have the luxury of allowing cab drivers to rip me off. Thank you.

  8. Hi.

Just want to ask for help in estimating the cab fare from Mactan-Cebu International Airport to 91 Juana OsmeƱa Street, Cebu City (Paragon Suites). I just heard that a lot of taxi drivers in Cebu are tampering their cab meters.

    Thank you.

  9. When you say that they are tampering with the meters, how much excess are you talking about. Double, triple? These Taxi's prices seem very low to me coming from Taiwan. Thank you for your information.

  11. Glad that I've found this blog post. On the latter part, it made me reminds of the "batingting" story featured in Imbestigador way back 2010 I guess. I used to ride taxi when I'm in a hurry, or when it's late. I'm picky in choosing which taxi to ride, my choices are:

if the car is clean, pleasing and the driver is clean as well

if I had a choice, I'll wait for Basic, Dollar, MGE and Xavierville taxi to come. These taxi companies have established a good reputation and popular in taxi industry.
