The Philippines is endowed with so many species of the six-legged creatures with colorful wings and a few days lifespan, some species probably yet to be discovered and documented.
The butterfly garden list below "spidered" from their official websites, and needs to be updated from time to time. These butterfly farms, besides being educational destinations for field trips, also double as suppliers of live butterfly release during weddings, and other events.
On butterfly releases, probably due to ignorance of most people, the released butterflies have very slim chance of surviving and multiplying in the area where they're released due to the absence of the host plants to lay their eggs on and their caterpillars need to survive. This is the way nature designed it, a butterfly species needs a specific partner plant (called host plant) to survive in this world, take away the host plant, you kill the butterfly (or drive them to extinction). That's why the presence of butterflies in an area is a sign of good ecological health of the place besides acting as an indicator of how clean the air is for they're also very sensitive to changes in the environment.

ReplyDeletedennis, afaik no gardens for dragonflies unless you make one. dragonflies live near swamps, ponds and watery areas and spend much of their lifetime as nymphs living underwater before developing their wings and becoming full-grown dragonflies

I've been to Grand Villa Resort and Butterfly Farm in Bay, Laguna and the place is really lovely. The butterfly garden is not that big but cosy and relaxing. Aside from the farm you can tour the whole place on their jeepney, see the animals in their small zoo, play paintball with your family or colleagues and just enjoy swimming on their large pools. They also have cute nipa huts if you want to stay overnight.

Cruz, non-aircon via HM Transit (aircon buses to Sta Cruz of HM Transport and Green Star don't pass by Alabang ilalim) then drop off in Bay town center. In Bay, hire a tricycle to take you there or ask around. An alternative is to board buses to Calamba, then transfer to a jeepney going to Sta. Cruz then request the driver/conductor to drop you off in Bay.

It comes with many species this NGO cultivates and imports from other farms, a man made vulcano with very attractive Koi fish. In addition to theButterfly Kingdom there is a resort, bird, reptile and other wildlife conservation inside and a seperate Zoo in the facility. Villas, dorms and campasite are also available. The park is promoting environmental conservation and its "work for food or school program" by providing jobs to individuals who wants to help themselves. You will not only enjoy this 35 hectare facility becasue of its beauty and humble mission but the VIEW overlooking the Clark area and the mountains is way too cool para kang nasa Tagaytay....

the one in Palawan is already closed. The newly renovated one and is running for almost 13years now is THE PALAWAN BUTTERFLY GARDEN they don't advertise. news only travel trough word of mouth. they have other insects too and are going to put up an insect museum. it is owned by a family of butterfly specialists for two generations. Each province has their own species of butterflies so it's nice to butterfly garden hop and compare!
