That's to paraphrase a line immortalized by Melanie Marquez and speaks so well of typical Filipinos judging people solely by physical appearance.
I was channel surfing on ETC last Saturday when a The Insider feature of Lindsay, a 2-year old baby girl with plageria, caught my attention. Just think of plageria as a baby looking like a grandmother.
I am gonna rant on plageria's related disease that makes people look younger than their true age- agerasia. You see, I'm afflicted with that "disease". Sometimes I like it, sometimes I don't. Here's why:
Went to SM City Manila, SM City Hall as I prefer to call it, to while away time waiting for 5 o'clock appointment with a doctor. As I passed by a group offering Family first, they ignored me and instead asked other passers-by if they have credit cards since I look like a boy in jeans and a "No Intiendo" Spoofs Unlimited shirt.
I love looking like a student!
I proceeded to an open house of a soon-to-be-built condominium in Manila since I was really looking for my future home. One of the staff showed me around but her questioning is doubtful if I can really buy that room she was showing me suspecting as if I'm taking her for a ride. Such skepticism mainly due to my boyish appearance.
Now I hate looking like this.
How come Filipinos are so judgmental of a person's looks? I will only be "harrassed" by credit card hawkers and other peddlers if I'm inside my corporate "costume".

ReplyDeleteI made a test once in a mall because I was pissed off when one day I saw a guard shooed away a family because they were not "properly dressed". The first day I wore tattered jeans and a faded shirt. Nobody even bothered to open the door for me.
The next day, I wore casual-office attire. Guess what? They said Good Morning, opened the door for me and hardly checked my bag.
Geez....
tsk ... tsk ... tsk ... first you were wrongly judged as a boy when you rode a taxi ... now, the condominium staff is skeptic about you because of your boyish appearance ... oh boy, seemed you're really afflicted with that 'disease'
